Founded in December 1932 when it was separated from the Faculty of Medicine, then Medical Institute, in order to provide a department for mother and infant care. Back then there were only 25 students. The faculty was organized by its first dean, who was the doctor and scientist, professor Efim M. Lepsky.

The faculty is designed for training the doctors that specialize in giving prophylactic medical treatment to healthy and ill children. The course work is 6 years in all.

At present the student body of the faculty is 965 students, 875 — study on the basis of the state budget and 90 are receiving financial aid. The principle and the load of training for the natural sciences is the same as in the program of the Medical Faculty. At the same time, in addition to the basic clinical disciplines the students-pediatrists study the peculiarities of the development, diagnostics and treatment of various childhood diseases. The primary specializations are Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery.

The higher dental education in Kazan started with the Faculty of Odonthology and Stomatology, founded on the basis of the Faculty of Medicine in 1921. In 1936 there was founded the Kazan Dental Institute where there were trained 982 dentists before the year 1950. In 1954 at the Kazan Medical University the Dental Faculty was opened.

The faculty trains dentists with the main aim being to teach the young specialists new methods in restorative, operative, prosthetic and pediatric dentistry. The period of study is 5 years.

In the first two years the students study the basic subjects. Beginning from the third year under the supervision of the experienced teachers the students treat patients on their own. Having studied the courses which define the profile of the specialty students go through the state appointed testing and become certified dentists. After one internship year students receive the certificate and have a right to start work.

Main basis of the faculty are: dental clinic at the university (60 work places and phantom class); face-jaw departments of the child's medical center (30 beds) and emergency room of the main hospital (60 beds). On the basis of the adult and children's dental clinics of Kazan the staff from different departments (therapeutic, surgical, oprhtopedical and pediatric stomatology) supervise the learning process of the students. On the same basis students take part in the scientific conferences and hold scientific projects.

The faculty was founded in 1975. Its main designation is to train experts in the field of the making, production and usage of the medicines, to make them ready for immediate and qualified help for the public.

The length of studies is 5 years. During the first five semesters students study the modern chemistry, as well as biological and medical profile (the level of giving the treatment before doctor's help is needed). Further on, the future pharmaceuticts are taught the medicine science (pharmacology, technology of medicine, pharmacognosy, the organization of the pharmaceutical business), pharmaceutical and toxicological chemistry.

At the pharmacological faculty students have to do practical work apart from the theoretic course work. Types of practical work could be botanical and pharmacognostical, at the pharmacy and at the factory. The most important thing is that during practical work students have a good opportunity to see what their future jobs will be like.

Another thing that is different about the faculty is that the students have an opportunity to take final state examinations in the form of preparing diploma projects. This form is only meant for the students with top grades. Those who successfully pass the course of studies the qualification "Pharmaceutist" is granted. The level of training allows students to work at the chemical analytical laboratories and forensic laboratories, as well as at the research institutes.

Founded in 1930, the faculty trains specialists in hygiene and epidemiology, their activities being the evaluation of a person's health and environment in order to perform necessary prophylactic activities.

The alumnus of this faculty get special training that enables them to further work in the system of state sanitary and epdemiological control, in the research institutes, and in the institutions of higher education.

The period of studies is 6 years. The first three years students of the faculty take general courses that are offered by the university program of bio-medical sciences. In the fourth year along with the general courses students have to take special disciplines in hygiene and prophylactic treatment, which prepares them for the degree project work as well as to specialize in the field of occupational diseases, dietology and food hygiene, ecological problems, epidemiology and microbiology.

Starting from 1993-1994 there was introduced a unified academic plan, which allows the alumnus from three faculties after the preparation for the degree has been done, the students could choose to specialize in any of the following three directions: Medical treatment, Pediatrics, and in the Prophylactic Medicine.

This faculty was founded in 1994. The faculty prepares experts in the field of the healthcare management, organization of the nurses for the medical and prophylactic institutions, and organization of the secondary education for nurses. The length of study is 4 years.

The complex of educational programs includes the fundamental preparation in the general and particular clinical fields, as well as professional disciplines in management and pedagogic.

The faculty was created in 1991 in order to train and to improve previous skills of the specialists in social work. Primarily the staff of social security have the priority to become students at this faculty. The length of study is 5 years both involved in work and not. There is also admittance to the courses for improving one's qualifications: the length of full-time studies — 9 months, part-time studies — 18 months.

The studies at the faculty assume the acquiring of the basic knowledge in law, psychology, sociology. Successful studies at the faculty allow students to work in the healthcare system, in education, and businesses. Students from the other faculties may also get an additional specialty of a psychiatrist and they may start from the fourth year which guarantees graduation from the universities with two diplomas.The staff of the faculty are highly qualified professors, specialists, staff from businesses and social workers.

The departments of economic theory and social work, as well as the department of general and medical psychology with a minor course in pedagogics are the basis of the department. The faculty works closely with the Ministry of Social Security, the State Committee of Labor, state branches of power and is actively developing international relations. Professors and specialists from all over the world are invited to read lectures at to the students at the faculty.
